A Leap Towards Strengthening Bilateral Ties
In the 2023 edition of the Ghana-European Union (EU) Political Dialogue, held at Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on March 8, 2023, the two entities have resolved to enhance their collaborative efforts. This dialogue session is an avenue for both Ghana and the EU to review the advancements they have made in carrying out the agreements from the preceding year’s discussions. The focus is also on their shared aspirations and to identify potential areas for collaboration as detailed in the agenda for the Dialogue.
Expressing Gratitude and Anticipation
The event was presided over by Ghana’s Vice President, H.E. Mahamudu Bawumia, who lauded the EU delegation and the various stakeholders for their contributions towards a successful dialogue. He expressed gratitude to the EU for granting Ghana a fund of Ten Million Euros (€10 million) to bolster Ghana’s food security, which aligns with the government’s initiative, ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ (PFJ). He also voiced optimism that this year’s session would fortify the established relationship between the EU and Ghana while addressing both bilateral and multilateral hurdles for the mutual benefit of their citizenries.
Strengthening Partnership Amid Global Disruptions
Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, conveyed her statement through Hon. Thomas Mbomba, the Deputy Minister of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. She emphasized that despite global disruptions since the 2021 Dialogue, the partnership between Ghana and the EU, Ghana’s major development ally, continues to flourish. She pointed out that the discussions would center around mutually beneficial topics such as economic partnerships, democracy, good governance, climate change, sustainability, economic transformation, regional security, and multilateralism, among others.
Acknowledging Ghana’s Contributions and EU’s Continual Support
H.E. Mr. Irchad Razaaly, the EU Delegation Ambassador to Ghana, applauded Ghana for its efforts in fostering peace and security both regionally and through the UN Security Council. He reassured that the EU remains devoted to its African partners, highlighting that the Political Dialogue is a testament to the depth of cooperation existing between the EU and Ghana.
